Saltwater and Freshwater Beaches
Cape Breton Island offers exception fresh and saltwater swimming opportunities. From secluded sandy ocean beaches, with ideal conditions for beach combing and surfing, to warm water lakes perfect for kids of all ages.

Famous Ingonish Beach is the only beach in Highlands National Park featuring both fresh and salt water swimming. This beautiful sandy ocean beach has an interesting story. Each winter the sandy beach is washed away and then re-deposited each spring, simply by the action of the waves. During summer months, surf guards are on duty at both saltwater and freshwater beaches.

Mountain Biking
In the immediate area, the Cabot Trail and the Cape Breton Highlands National Park feature well-maintained trails that include mountain climbs, and spectacular coastal vistas, ready for you to explore. Visit North Nova Adventures on-site to rent your mountain bike.

Tennis
Grab a racquet and serve up some action with a game of tennis located on the court at Ingonish Beach. Breathe in the fresh ocean air while you work on your backhand. Then, return to the Main Lodge for a cold beverage on the patio of the Atlantic Restaurant.
